Recap of Northern California Glam Nation Concerts

Warfield #1

Adam was great as usual. My seat was rather high up, not the nosebleeds, but just below in upper loge, close to the middle so I actually had a great view of the whole stage even though it was far. Most of my previous Adam concerts, I had seats closer to the front but on the side and I feel that you get a better experience when you are more towards the center of the stage, even if it is a little further back. I bought these tickets from StubHub a few hours before the show for $42 each so not bad at all. This crowd was one of the best ones I've experienced at an Adam concert - very diverse, enthusiastic, loud, and they stood and danced the whole time. They flashed the blue glow sticks during WWFM. I'm sure Adam felt all the love for him. As I mentioned earlier, the rock WLL was the highlight, and was probably the best rock version I've heard him sing (I saw him perform this 3 times on the Idol tour). Lots and lots of unbelievable high notes. Soaked was absolutely stunning. From watching videos of Glam Nation and from the subsequent two shows I saw, I have to say, I think this is the one song he sings that consistently blows me away. All the uptempo songs like Fever, IIHY, Strut, SFW, were great. His dancing has improved and he and his dancers seemed very in sync, although my eyes were pretty much fixated on drop-dead gorgeous Adam. He seemed to have more deliciously sexy moves throughout (maybe because this was SF). The dance with Brooke was sizzling, especially the part where she squatted down in front of him, looks at the audience as if to say "Don't you wish you were me right now", and then swung between Adam's thighs. And of course that lick with Tommy during Fever was hot. The lasers were fascinating and really added to the show. You don't really get the same effects in an outdoor venue, as I soon discovered at Thunder Valley.

I'd say the one thing that disappointed me about the show was the sound in the venue. Several songs like WWFM, Aftermath, and Mad World, Adam's voice had the helium effect, similar to what happened during the Idol tour. So in those songs he sounded like a chipmunk. I am not sure what causes this, if it has anything to do with where you are located (we were in the direct line of speakers), but I have read others complain about the helium effect. Oddly enough, you don't really hear it as much or at all when you see the same performance on video. Also, the sound was excruciatingly loud, and often times I had to plug my ears. I was quite disappointed with these sound issues because I kept hearing how great the venue was. However, overall, I enjoyed the show very much, and Adam captivated me the whole time. I still can't believe someone as talented and beautiful as he is actually exists.

Oh I did want to mention that they now sell hoodies as part of the tour merchandise. It is not available on Adam Official. It was black and teal with just "Adam Lambert". Even though it was $75, I had to have it. I normally wear a medium, but when I tried it on at home, it was too small. So keep that in mind that they run small if you buy one. I also bought one of the T-shirts that had all the Glam Nation venues on the back and one of those disco ball keychains.

I could not stand in line in by the buses because the garage our car was parked in closed by midnight. However, I did see Neil walk by. Later on I heard Adam did come out. I was so disappointed, I told myself I would have to see him by the buses on one of the next concerts.

Thunder Valley

Adam never disappoints me vocally or visually. However, I have to say that in all the venues I've been to see Adam, this one was the worst. First of all, I had fifth row seats, the closest seats I've ever had, and although we were fairly close to the center on a side section, I could not see the whole stage. For example, when he sang Ring of Fire where he is back on the stairs, I could not see him at all. I remember people complaining about this venue on the first show (Lionel Richie) and I was hoping they would address it but they didn't. I read on one blog where someone flew in from out-of-state and paid $400 in scalpers fees for third row reserved seats but could not see anything. They complained to Thunder Valley but they didn't do anything. There were no jumbotrons either. The sound also had issues. Again, I heard the helium effect on the same songs as I heard at the Warfield.

As for the performances, except for the helium effect, they were all good. The highlight for this show was Soaked. The vocals were pure perfection. I noticed that he didn't really have too many sexy moves
in this set. On Adam Official, there is an entire thread on the Thunder Valley concert being low-energy, as if Adam was just going through the motions. http://www.adamofficial.com/us/node/1638324 I'm not sure if this had to do with the crowd, as he mentioned he feeds off the crowd energy. Although the size of the crowd was twice that of the Warfield, it was very subdued and not very loud. People were standing, but just didn't seem like they were nuts for him like at the Warfield. I've read that the front seats are reserved for casino employees/executives and are "comps"for high rollers so maybe they had never heard of Adam before. And I'm sure everyone knows that there was no WLL but this could have been due to other reasons besides the subdued crowd.

After the show, we went out to the buses and saw no one. I talked to one of the security guards who thought Adam had already left. I was determined now that I needed to see Adam at my Glam Nation Concert #3

Warfield #2

Again, I bought tickets from StubHub a few hours for the concert, but this time I had to pay almost double. We got the exact same seats in upper loge since I knew what the view would be. As soon as I got there, I bought more merchandise, this time a larger sized hoodie. I've now spent over $300 on tour merchandise. If other fans are doing the same, Adam should do well as I heard he gets to keep most of the profit from tour merchandise. Yay!!!

The big difference between this show and Friday's show was the crowd. When Adam finally came out, everyone in the section in front of us and most of the people in my section and behind me stood, danced, and screamed. However, during the medley, people were rudely yelling "SIT DOWN!!!!" so most of the people in my section and behind me sat down. Anyway, lots of other people wrote about this same experience on Adam Official. http://www.adamofficial.com/us/node/1640560 I tried stand on his uptempo songs like SFW, Fever, IIHY but it was difficult since not many other people were standing. I have to say that except for the GA people and the section in front of me (lower loge) who were all standing, this was the deadest crowd I have experienced at an Adam concert and the first where many sections were sitting down most of the time. I felt not being to stand up and really enjoy myself just changed the whole experience for me and I was unable to concentrate on Adam as much as I would have liked. Anyway, when I could focus, he sounded amazing, although the helium effect was still there on those few songs I mentioned before. Sound was not as loud as Friday. The show was still a lot sexier than Thunder Valley. The highlight again was the acoustic WLL and again he was amazing on Soaked. Overall, I still had a good time, but the crowd put a big damper on the whole show.

This time I knew better not to park in a garage that would close by midnight so I was determined to see Adam by the buses. There seemed to be quite few people there, maybe 75-100. Unfortunately, I could not get at the front of the barricade, which you really need to be if you want to hug or get a picture with Adam. Anyway, I was behind the front row. We saw various people like Taylor and Monte come out. I got Monte's autograph. He is cute in person, just shorter than what I expected. Later on Sutan came out but didn't come down the line of people. Neil came out several times. I yelled his name but he ignored me. Funny he was wearing the Adam hoodie that I had just bought. After standing in line for about an hour, finally Adam comes out but he goes to the other side of the bus signing autographs. Then I started hearing people on my side of the bus singing "If I Had You", so I joined in. Eventually, Adam came to our side, and I was so excited, I couldn't keep eyes off him. I felt like I was in a dream. When he came close to me, I had to pass my CD to the front row for him to sign it, and as he did, I reached out and grazed his hand. I wasn't able to meet him, but I was able to touch him slightly, even if it was just probably a hair on his arm. He looked so gorgeous and he was smiling and thanking everyone for coming. The guy just has an aura about him. After he went down the entire line, and back up my way, again, I was able to reach out and graze his arm. Anyway, I came out with his autograph and Monte's, and two slight touches.

Overall Impressions

For some reason, whenever I see Adam I feel like it is an out-of-body experience. I see him, listen to him, and it just seems to go by so fast, then when it's all over, I feel like I've forgotten everything. So I immediately crave more. I feel like Adam is a drug and I'm addicted to him. So I am going again tonight for Glam Nation Concert #4 in San Diego. Tomorrow, if I have a chance, I'm going to go by the Hard Rock Cafe to see the outfit Adam wore on the finale. Who knows, to feed my addiction, I might end up at Glam Nation Concert #5 at Las Vegas.
